This is the Read Me file for Slideshow 1.0, shipped August 24th, 1995. Text below is copied from the About box within the program.
Yet ANOTHER Slideshow program? Do we NEED another one? Well, maybe. This slideshow program has been designed to fill the gaps left by more sophisticated applications in the following ways:
• Very small program size- less than 40K. This allows it to be copied onto floppy disks, etc. with images to provide standalone slideshows.
• Very simple to use- no unnecessary complications- just select the slides folder and go.
• Very low cost- in fact, absolutely zero!! This program is free and you are permitted to copy it as much as you like.
• Self-running. Can be used to create self-running slideshows. Just set it up once and it will re-run the same slideshow every time. Drop it (or an alias) into your startup items folder to create truly self-running slideshows with your Mac. (To make a self-running slideshow, simply quit the application while the slideshow is in progress).
• Supports common formats PICT, TIFF, GIF and JPEG. As long as all images are in the same folder, they all get shown.
• Fast file scanning- this program does not prebuild lists of displayable files, and so will display images of slow media, such as CD-ROM with no prescan delay- a boon for browsing ISO 9660 picture archives!
This program was created in record time (about a day) from existing sources, and was designed to fulfil a particular need. If you require more sophisticated slideshows, there are many available. JPEGView 3.3 from Aaron Giles is recommended for its excellent colour reduction and features, though it can be slow from PC CD-ROM disks. There are many others too numerous to mention, but hopefully you will find Slideshow useful.
